I am a jazz composer, saxophonist and educator based in Portland, Oregon.

My vision is to empower students to live and think in a musical way, and through learning music, learn as well to respect themselves and others.

I have a lifelong passion for music that started in elementary school with the clarinet, expanded to singing in high school choirs and playing in punk bands, and led to serious piano study in college. I have made it my goal to learn as much as possible about every instrument and genre.

Who I am

As an educator, I am particularly enthusiastic about teaching music literacy and composition as a companion to technique and repertoire. I want to encourage students to not just perform music but to think and live in a musical way. As a composer and arranger, I emphasize a multidisciplinary approach balanced with the Western tradition. I aim to pass down this approach to my students.
